Jim Williams is now a BDO major champion after defeating Richard Veenstra. Williams came through a close fought final to finally deliver on his ability and his form coming into the tournament.

After claiming the bank holiday weekend Champion of Champions event, in Cardiff, Williams made the short journey to Blackburn and triumphed in the Kings Hall event.

Williams will be a hot favourite to win the World Masters and later on in the year the World Championship. It has long been considered that Williams would take up the crown of his close friend Glenn Durrant. Finally, the Welshman has risen to the challenge on the big stage and in front of the TV cameras.

On the ladies side of the event Lisa Ashton claimed the title with a final victory over Anastasia Dobromyslova. Her 6-2 victory was convincing and seems to have reafired her number one status in the ladies game. Her third World Trophy title came from being 0-2 behind before she hit her stride
