Joyce, who won his Tour Card back in 2018, began the day with wins over Andy Hamilton, Luke Humphries and fellow North-East star Chris Dobey to reach the Last 16. At that stage, he took on Madars Razma, who defeated Number One seed Gerwyn Price in the previous round, and saw him off 6-5 to reach the Quarter Finals where he then took on another fellow North-East Star and Premier League table topper Glen Durrant. Again, he won an 11 leg thriller 6-5 to reach the Semi Finals where two-time world champion Gary Anderson stood in his way and he brushed the Scotsman ahead 7-3 with a 102 average to reach his maiden PDC Final.

The final began with Chisnall breaking the throw in the opening leg in 15 darts before there were 5 consecutive holds of throw between the pair then Chisnall broke Joyce’s throw for second time in the match to move 5-2 up and 3 away from victory. Again there were continuous holds of throw before in the 12th leg, Joyce broke Chisnall’s throw to make it 7-5. Joyce then held throw in 13 darts to move one adrift of Chisnall, who was throwing for the match in the 14th leg. In that leg, Chisnall missed four darts at the outer ring which allowed Joyce back to the board where he took his chance by pinning tops to force a deciding leg.

In the last leg, Chisnall left 86 after nine with Joyce needing to score big to keep up with him, which he did by leaving tops after 12. One dart at bull was all that Chisnall was allowed and Joyce clinched the win in 14 darts which denied Chisnall a 16th PDC Title of his career and Joyce claiming his 1st.

Chisnall, who was a Quarter Finalist in Wednesday’s event, began the day with comfortable wins over Aaron Beeney, Jamie Lewis and Benito Van de Pas to secure his place in the Last 16. At that stage, he defeated Maik Kuivenhoven 6-4, who stunned PC9 winner Michael Van Gerwen in the previous round, before seeing off Martijn Kleermaker and Nathan Aspinall respectively to reach his first Pro Tour final of the year.

Unable to clinch the title but after two strong runs in the opening two days, Chisnall will continue to be a firm contender for the rest of the summer series.

Quarter Finals runs for World Champion Peter Wright and Welsh ace Jonny Clayton as well as a second consecutive Last 16 run by Jason Lowe, who defeated Rob Cross and Adrian Lewis along the way before being defeated by Martijn Kleermaker.

The Summer Series will continue on Friday with Players Championship 11 and another £75,000 tournament, with the race for the Betfred World Matchplay heating up with a number of players still hoping to book their spot at arguably the second biggest tournament in world darts.
