Snakebite Starts Autumn Series The Wright Way.

Peter Wright picked up the title on Saturday by winning Players Championship 14 in Niedernhausen defeating Madars Razma (8-1) in the decider as the PDC Autumn Series began.

Following on from the Summer Series, A 5-day header of Players Championship events began this time in Germany after the Summer Series took place in Milton Keynes back in July.

Peter Wright, the man who topped the leaderboard in the Summer Series and won the last event, began the day with back to back 6-2 wins over Callan Rydz and Graham Usher respectively and averaged 99.6 on both occasions before a comfortable 6-2 win again, this time over Newly Crowned World Matchplay Champion Dimitri Van den Bergh to book his spot in the Last 16. At that stage, he saw off Boris Krcmar 6-1, who had seen off Dave Chisnall in the previous round by the same score line. In the quarter finals, he come up against fellow Premier League Star Glen Durrant and Duzza didn’t get a sniff as Wright whitewashed him 6-0 to book his spot in the Last 4. At that stage, he took on Michael Van Gerwen in a repeat of the most recent World Championship final. Wright went 5-2 down before winning 5 of the next 6 legs to take it 7-6 and deny MVG a spot in the final.

In the final, Wright had the advantage the whole way through in racing into a 4-0 lead before Razma hit a 12 dart leg which would end being his only leg won in the final as Wright rattled off another 4 legs on the spin to take the title and pick up a 4th title of 2020, since being crowned World Champion.

Razma, who had only made 1 previous ranking final in the PDC back in 2018, began the day with wins over Steve Lennon and Dirk Van Duijvenbode before an impressive 6-4 win over Ian White to book his spot in the Last 16 and denying White who averaged near 107. He then saw off Karel Sedlacek and Jelle Klaasen respectively- dropping just 3 legs along the way to book his spot in the Semi Finals. At that stage, he took on Devon Petersen, who saw off Number 1 seed Gerwyn Price earlier in the day, and the match was tight affair but Razma nicked it 7-6 to book a spot in just his 2nd PDC Ranking Final. Unable to win the decider, but a strong start to the Autumn Series will stand him in good stead going into the next four days.

There were quarter finals runs for Krzysztof Ratajski as well as Jesus Noguera, who reached his 1st Ranking Quarter Final since winning his tour card earlier this year.
