MICHAEL VAN GERWEN snatched a superb (8-7) victory over Peter Wright to restore ‘business as usual’ in PDC darts. and impressive field to capture event one of the PDC Summer Series at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, earlier today.
The Dutchman man saw off the challenge of the bespectacled Wright to mark the return of live darts action. Earlier in the day there had been start delays, caused by testing hold ups, and a few snags with lighting for the streamed boards.
Big names fell in the early rounds as the players tried to adapt to new, rules and social distancing regulations. Gary Anderson and Nsthsn Aspinall were amongst the first to fall.
However, other big names seemed to adapt quickly and resume as if they had barely been interrupted. Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Dave Chisnall were moving steadily through the field.
By the Qtr finals those three had been joined by Mensur Suljavic, Gabriel Clemens, The Polish Eagle continued his assault on the rankings, while Danny Noppert and Glen Durrant maintained there strong 2020 form.
Rajadski, Clemens and Wright joined MVG in the last four, where Michael brushed aside the German Giant (7-3) and Wright gaining a 7-2 win over the Polish star despite both averaging over 105!
The perfect final, between World No. 1 and reigning World Champion, could have been scripted in Hollywood. It proved an outstanding affair with the Green Machine claiming the victory and once more establishing his dominance over the Pro Tour.
