Iceman Goes Back to Back

Gerwyn Price went back to back on Wednesday by winning Players Championship 18, following on from Tuesday’s PC17 win, in defeating Krzysztof Ratajski 8-5 in the decider as the PDC Autumn Series came to its conclusion.

World Number 3 Price began the day by receiving a bye into Round 2 with the withdrawal of Andy Hamilton. He started off with a 6-4 victory over Vincent Van der Voort with an average of 106.3 before back to back 103 average wins over Madars Razma and Chris Dobey saw him book his spot in the Quarter Finals. At that stage, he took on 9-time major champion James Wade and saw him off 6-5 with his highest average of the day at 107.2. In the Semi Finals, he took on Jose De Sousa, a man who beat Michael Van Gerwen in the previous round, and Price dispatched him 7-2 with a 104.5 average to seal his place in the final. The final began with Price kicking off with a 15 darter in the opener before a run of 9 straight breaks of throw before Price held throw in the 11th leg for the first time in 10 legs to move 7-4 up and one away from victory. Ratajski won the 12th leg in 13 darts before Price sealed the win in the following leg to pick up a 13th PDC Title of his career.

Ratajski, a winner of 7 ranking events in the past, began his day with a 6-2 win over fellow countryman Krzysztof Kciuk with an average of 103.2 before wins over Adrian Gray and Peter Jacques saw him book his spot in the last 16. At that stage, he took on reigning World Matchplay champion Dimitri Van den Bergh and saw him off 6-4 before a 6-0 whitewash win over Simon Whitlock saw the Polish ace move into the Semi Finals. At that stage, he took on Brendan Dolan, a winner of 2 ranking events in 2019, and Ratajski saw him off 7-4 with a 98 average to set up the final clash with Price. Wasn’t to be in the final for Ratajski but plenty of positives going into the upcoming World Series Finals and the rest of 2020.

Elsewhere, there was a surprise Quarter Final run for Matt Clark as he defeated Mensur Suljovic, Josh Payne, Keegan Brown and Danny Noppert before losing out to Brendan Dolan. Early exits for the likes of Peter Wright, Michael Smith, Nathan Aspinall, Ian White and Adrian Lewis. There was also a perfect leg hit by Devon Petersen on the Live Stream as he lost out to Dimitri Van den Bergh.
