Jonny Clayton storms to Worthington’s Red Dragon Champion of Champions Title.
PDC star Jonny Clayton lifted the £5,000 first prize and the title of Worthington’s Champion of Champions Title with a 2-0 win over Yorkshireman Tony Darlow in Sunday’s Final in Cardiff. Welshman Clayton, playing on home soil was the form player throughout the day and thrived on the format of best of three legs event. The event, sponsorsed by Worthington’s and Red Dragon Darts and in its second year proved once again to be very popular with players and fans alike. 256 winners from Pub / Clubs throughout the UK made up the field on finals day in Cardiff and with a first prize of £5,000 on offer tension was high and add to that the short format and it all made for a recipe of exciting and tension packed darts.
Many ‘Top’ players had made it through to finals day including stars Wes Newton, defending champion Gerwyn Price, Steve Hine, Jamie Hughes, Richie Burnett, Paul Hogan to name but a few, but the day belonged to Jonny Clayton, who got the better of fellow Welshman Richie Burnett in the semi final, a high qulity game that went to the 3rd with Jonny comin out on top 2-1, this was the only leg that Jonny lost all day, no mean feat in itself in such a tough format. The final proved one step too far for Yorkshire’s Darlow and Clayton powered to the title and a 2-0 triumph to win the coveted title.
The event was superbly organised by Red Dragon Darts along with title sponsors Worthington’s and everyone is already looking forward to next years event.
