The eighth Pro Tour (PC) event of 202 was claimed by Ian White. The Stoke based player produced what he had been threatening for a while and stormed to an emphatic (8-3) win over James Wade in the final. Wade has also had a superb weekend following up yesterday’s semi-final by going one better today.
White defeated the resurgent Kin Huybrechts, in the semi, after gaining wins over most of his friends along the way. Dave Chisnall, Stephan Bunting and John Henderson were defeated back-to-back with Ian showing no friendly feeling! ‘Diamond’ White had started his campaign with wins over William Borland and Diogo Portela.
Perhaps the other most notable performance of the day came from Derk Telnekes. The Netherlands player has impressed since gaining his tour card in January and seems to be carrying last years excellent WDF form into the PDC. Derk defeated Steve Beaton in close run, first round, encounter and then took full advantage. He reached the semi finals before James Wade ended his excellent effort (2-7)
With many cancellations (and postponements) it is not possible to assume the shape of the rest of this years Players Championship and the qualifications that result from it. Those who have done well early in 2020 may reap huge rewards.
