Gary Anderson made short work of the first Pro Tour event of 2020 on Saturday. Anderson defeated, Canadian thrower, Jeff Smith 8-4 in the final. Smith had a superb run, on his return to the Pro Tour, after reclaiming his Tour Card in January.
Anderson seemed back to his most impressive form posting multiple 100+ averages and never dipping below 96. The Scot was never threatened despite playing several highly ranked, or in form, players over the course of the day. Simon Whitlock, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross, Joe Cullen and Adrian Lewis were all despatched before his encounter with The Silencer.
Smith too had performed at a very high standard while defeating opponents including, new World Champion, Peter Wright. However, he was unable to again step up to match Anderson.
The second Players Championship takes place tomorrow.
