VAUXHALL – REPORT – BY SH

Chris Mason (31.80) took the final (best of 9 legs) of the Vauxhall Open in Great Yarmouth 5-2 against Ronnie Baxter (30.55).  He took the first three legs in 12, 17 and 16 darts but dropped his game in the fourth leg and allowed Ronnie in with an 18 dart win.   Another 12 dart finish for Chris put him in a good 4-1 position but Ronnie fought back taking the next leg in 15 darts with a 116 outshot. Chris, needing only one more leg for the championship achieved this in 17 darts.    Mason must consider Yarmouth one of his favourite venues - he was successful there back in November too.

Baxter continues to be one of the most consistent players on the tour but he had no answer to Mason in this form. There was another positive showing from Essex players - Colin Lloyd lost in the semi finals along with Eddie Gosling.     Colin triumphed however in the JR Open event.

Norfolk´s Dawn Standley (24.24) was well in the fray - taking the Ladies Singles title in a 3-1 win over Crissie Manley (23.06) after a 3-2 win against Michelle Jackson in the semi-final).  Dawn had also come runner up in the 128 singles and won the Pairs Title with Janice Butters (Gorlston).

The Youth Final was strictly continental - both players coming from Holland.  Maarten Pape beating Fabian Rousenbram.

Causing a few grins in the audience with the name "Sideburns Don´t Rule Anymore" Crissy and Peter Manley, with Ronnie Baxter took the Mixed Triples against "Two Has-beens and a Newcombe" (Leslie Newcombe, Steve Hine and Tommy Ryan).

Following in their Dads´ footsteps - the Under 12s event saw Jordan Smith triumph over Daniel Ovens - two players to watch out for in the future.   Needless to say both dads (Dave and Dennis) were very proud onlookers.   Photos below.
