GREAT YARMOUTH

Yarmouth Title For Priestley

In a best of eleven leg final, yet another 2006 win went the way of Dennis Priestley when taking the Vauxhall 128 Plus Classic 6-3 over Belgium's Erik Clarys.   An exciting game with Erik taking his first leg in 15 darts with a 119 outshot.  Dennis swiftly retaliated taking the next two legs - the first of these with an 18 dart leg featuring a 126 outshot.  Erik picked off the fourth leg with an impressive 12 darter but again it was fight back time for Priestley and he took the next three legs.  Clarys was only able to gain one more leg before 'the Menace' took the championship by winning the ninth leg.  Average from Dennis was 27.66 with Erik on a 28.43 average.

The semi-final game for Dennis had been against Mick Reed with and taken with a close 5-4 game.    Erik's semi-final had been a faster game against Peter Manley which he took 5-2.   Alan Tabern - a Ladbrokes.com World Championship qualifier in December - hit a nine-dart leg during the early rounds of the event before being knocked out by Mick Reed in the last 16.  Full Results

 Mardle Takes Vauxhall Title

WAYNE MARDLE picked up his first tournament victory of 2006 with a 5-2 win over Barrie Bates in the final of the JR & Vauxhall Norfolk Open.  Wayne took his winning legs in 16,18, 14, 17 darts and finished with a 15 dart 126 finish to claim the tournament.  He averaged 29.99 against Barrie's average of 31.13 - a swift high scoring game kept the spectators enthralled.   His previous semi-final game had been at a slower pace when playing Trevor Ellacott where he took a 4-1 win albeit with a 24.73 av.

Barrie kept up his averages and gained his semi-final match against Colin Osborne with a 30.43 av and a close 4-3 scoreline.   Colin's average had been 29.15.   Full Results

The Ladies Singles event saw a close game between Vicki Franklin and Dawn Standley – Dawn eventually coming off the winner 3-1 with a 21.38 average.  Vicki’s average was slightly higher on 22.49 which reflected the standard of play.   Losing semi-finalists were Michelle Jackson (Cumbria) 21.08av and Norma Wilson (Lincs) 19.83av.

A regular on-stager in the Under 12’s  is young Jordan Smith – the Vauxhall weekend was no exception – Jordan from Yorkshire played his socks off to beat Jack Lucas (Oxon) 2-0 with a very healthy 23.15 average – things just seem to get better for this young lad – the son of Dave Smith.

Ross Smith, Kent, played a terrific game in the Youth Section, winning his game 2-0 against the youth from Holland, Martin Pape.  Ross averaged 27.83 in his game.

Mixed Triple Winners saw yet another Kent contingent on stage when the team named ‘Franks a Lot’ made up of Vicki Franklin, Geoff Harkup and Paul McDine,  beat ‘Get out of My Bed’ team (Carly Blay, Matt Chapman and Andy Callaby) 2-0.  Kent again featured in the Mixed Pairs Championship where Kirk Shepherd and Marlene Badger were Runners Up to the pairing of Crissy Manley and Ronnie Baxter.

In the Young At Heart event it was Maureen Rolls who took the stage for Kent but was unable to hold back Ray Black from Berkshire who won the match 2-0.
