West Young Man
This
just has to be the title after a very productive weekend for
Hertfordshire’s Tony West. A
stupendous average of 32.57 by Tony justly earned him the Mens Singles
Championship after his 3-2 win over Kent’s Jed Hopper (22.60).
All his winning legs had been taken in 15 darts.
Tony had ‘stepped up’ his darts after it had been a case of
‘West –v- West’ in his previous semi game against Steve West
(27.36). The two ‘Wests’
battled in a close game culminating in a 3-1 win for Tony (29.17). Tony and Steve also featured together in the Mixed Triples when, with Viv Dundon (Essex) they took a 2-0 win over Mac Nagra, Martin Compton and Wendy Johnson (Essex). In
the Mixed Pairs event, it was an all Essex final with George Harris and
Donna Mardle winning over Jimmy Noone and Roz Ambroze. No
longer called the Senior Citizens event but now entitled ‘Young at
Heart’, Harry Walsh was quick to take a 2-0 win against Aian Rimes.
Young Tom Hammond (Essex) won his Under 12 event by default when
Holly Glet from Kent was unable to attend the final. Two
Kent players in the finals of the Youth event were Karl Turner (15.09) and
Ross Smith (22.26) – Karl winning his match 2-0.
Two fine players in the making. Deta
Hedman (22.22) won 3-1 against Viv Dundon (21.74) in a closely contested
match – both Essex players throwing good darts.
The previous semi-final games had seen Deta winning 3-0 against
Kent’s Hayley Plume and Viv taking a 3-1 against Donna Mardle (Essex).
